A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) jawan apprehended a man who attempted to flee a security checkpoint at the Delhi Metro’s Jama Masjid station on Sunday, October 18, 2026, and recovered an “unidentified semi-solid substance” concealed in a stitched portion of the man’s undergarment kept in his bag, officials said. The man was handed over to the local police for further investigation, and officials added they suspect the material could be gold paste, with testing under way to identify it.
According to The Hindu’s report, the CISF later posted a 27-second CCTV compilation of the incident on its X handle on October 19. In the post, the force said the passenger tried to run after a “suspicious, dense object” appeared on the XBIS baggage-screening monitor.
The edited footage shows security personnel frisking the passenger. After collecting his bag from the X-ray scanner, the man is seen slipping out through the women’s frisking enclosure and sprinting toward the exit.
A CISF jawan, who had been observing the passenger’s movements, dropped the handheld metal detector and gave chase. While the man took an escalator toward the station concourse, the jawan ran up the stairs and intercepted him at Gate No. 1, with a colleague joining to escort the passenger back to the checkpoint.
The CISF said the subsequent check of the passenger’s belongings led to the recovery of the semi-solid substance hidden in the undergarment’s stitched section. The force also noted that the passenger claimed to be a non-resident Indian based in Kuala Lumpur.
The CISF stated that the passenger and the seized material were handed over to the police. A probe to determine the exact nature of the substance is in progress, officials said.
