Five government hospitals serving predominantly tribal communities in Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district have won six Kayakalp awards for 2025-26, securing a total of ₹10 lakh in prize money, according to The Hindu.
The Community Health Centre at Palvancha received the State-Level Eco-Friendly Award worth ₹5 lakh and an additional Commendation Award. The Area Hospitals at Bhadrachalam, Manuguru, Yellandu and Aswaraopeta each earned a Commendation Award, taking the district’s tally to six awards from five participating hospitals.
District officials said the recognition marked a 100% success rate for the district’s entries. Manuguru and Aswaraopeta were recognised in their first attempt at the Kayakalp assessment, while coordinated efforts helped extend expected recognition for Bhadrachalam and Palvancha to Yellandu as well, District Coordinator of Hospital Services Dr. G. Ravi Babu said.
Former Collector Jithesh V. Patil, present Collector Ankit and Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer B. Rahul supported the improvement drive, Dr. Ravi Babu added. “This recognition demonstrates that infrastructure challenges need not deter quality improvement when staff work with dedication, discipline and a shared commitment to patient care,” he said.
Instituted by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare in 2015, the Kayakalp Awards promote cleanliness, hygiene and infection control in public health facilities. Assessments cover parameters including sanitation, biomedical waste management, infection prevention, environmental sustainability and patient-friendly services.
Some of the award-winning facilities continue to operate from old buildings while new infrastructure is under development, the report noted.
