The Dasara Pet Show drew large crowds at J.K. Grounds in Mysuru on Sunday, showcasing about 702 dogs and 52 cats and drawing strong participation from young people and women, according to The Hindu.
Organised by the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, the show attracted pet owners from Mysuru and neighbouring districts including Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Kodagu and Hassan, The Hindu reported.
Organisers listed 55 dog breeds and presented awards across categories, with five dogs shortlisted for the Best in Show championship.
Breeds on display included German Shepherds, Lhasa Apsos, Beagles, Shih Tzus, Dobermans, Poodles, Great Danes, Rajapalayams and Pugs, along with entries from non-recognised breeds. Exhibits were arranged in designated enclosures.
Visitors were seen handling multiple dogs and taking photographs at a dedicated photo booth, The Hindu noted.
Sushmitha, a Mysuru resident who keeps seven dogs, told The Hindu she enjoys spending time with her pets. Chethan, a high school student from K.G. Koppal, also brought his dog to the show.
LED screens at the venue shared information on pet care, dog rearing and rabies prevention for public awareness.
The event recorded a 20% rise in participation compared with last year, according to organisers cited by The Hindu.
