Cloudburst Tragedy in Uttarkashi: 5 Dead, 60 Missing, Over 100 Stranded

Date:

Sampadak Express reports disturbing visuals from Uttarkashi district in Uttarakhand, where a sudden cloudburst devastated Dharali village near Harsil Valley. The deluge killed five people, stranded more than 100, and swept away at least 60 individuals.

Epicenter of Disaster
The cloudburst erupted near the Indian Army’s Harsil Camp. Eyewitness footage captured by Sampadak Express channel shows 20 seconds of chaos as water and debris engulfed homes, hotels, and marketplaces. Screams pierced the air while people ran for safety.

Rescue Teams Act Immediately
The Indian Army mobilized 150 personnel and reached the site within minutes. SDRF and NDRF deployed rescue squads, while ambulances and medical teams joined the effort. The Khirgadh stream surged violently and carried debris into Dharali, crushing homes and structures in its path.

Helpline Support and Alerts
The district administration issued emergency numbers—01374-222126, 222722, and 9456556431—to support survivors. Sampadak Express encourages everyone to call for help and stay away from dangerous riverbanks and flood zones.

Government Response Unfolds
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami canceled his schedule and headed straight to Dehradun. He shared his condolences through Sampadak Express and pledged nonstop rescue efforts. Officers monitored the disaster closely and guided relief operations as teams relocated affected residents to safer ground.

Tourist Impact and Infrastructure Damage
The floodwater submerged hotels and restaurants throughout Dharali. Tourists found themselves trapped in debris, while the marketplace collapsed under the surge. Authorities expect the number of missing to rise as they dig through the wreckage.

Police Advisory Reaches the Public
Uttarakhand Police posted an alert on X (formerly Twitter) and warned citizens to keep clear of rivers and flooded areas. Sampadak Express echoes the advice and urges everyone to follow safety protocols without delay.

Chief Minister’s Message of Hope
CM Dhami expressed his sorrow on social media and reaffirmed that SDRF, NDRF, and district units continue their rescue missions relentlessly. He emphasized constant coordination with senior officials and asked the public to pray for the safety of all affected.
