In a concerning mid-air incident aboard Air India flight AI-130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai, at least five passengers and several crew members reportedly fell ill, with food poisoning suspected as the likely cause.
According to reports, multiple individuals began experiencing symptoms such as nausea and dizziness during the flight. A total of 11 people, including six cabin crew members, were affected. However, Air India officially confirmed that five passengers and two crew members reported feeling unwell at different stages of the journey.
Upon landing in Mumbai, two passengers and two crew members continued to experience discomfort and were taken for medical evaluation. All four were discharged after receiving treatment.
A source familiar with the matter indicated that while symptoms of cabin depressurization can sometimes resemble food poisoning, that scenario has been ruled out, as there was no drop in oxygen levels nor any deployment of oxygen masks. This points toward food contamination as the more probable cause.
Importantly, the pilots remained unaffected. Sources noted that pilots typically receive their meals after passengers are served, which might have shielded them from the suspected food-related issue.
Air India Issues Statement
“On board flight AI-130 from London Heathrow to Mumbai, five passengers and two crew reported feeling dizzy and nauseous during different phases of the flight,” Air India said in a statement to Hindustan Times.“
The flight landed safely in Mumbai, where our medical teams were on standby to provide immediate assistance. After landing, two passengers and two cabin crew, who continued to feel unwell, were taken to the medical room for further examination and were later discharged. We are investigating the incident and have duly notified the regulator,” the statement added.
The exact cause of the incident remains under investigation.
