Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary launched a scathing attack on Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav on Sunday, likening him to the infamous Bollywood villain “Gabbar”, and blaming him for Bihar’s economic stagnation during his tenure.
Speaking to the media, Choudhary accused the RJD supremo of instilling fear among industrialists between 1990 and 2005, which led to a mass exodus of businesses from the state. “Lalu Prasad ji is the lone villain of Bihar the ‘Gabbar’ of Bihar. As long as he remains active in politics, the fear of his return will linger in people’s minds,” he said.
Choudhary strongly defended Chief Minister Nitish Kumar against continued attacks by Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, calling Kumar a “conscious and capable” leader steering Bihar towards development. “Those who were in power earlier looted the state. Under Nitish Kumar’s leadership, Bihar is progressing,” he said.
Countering Opposition Claims
Responding to allegations that the NDA government failed to attract new industries, Choudhary said multiple initiatives including bottling and ethanol plants have been established. He appealed to the people of Bihar to give the NDA another term to transform the state into an industrial hub.
Regarding the recent hike in monthly pension from ₹400 to ₹1,100, which Tejashwi Yadav alleged was a copy of his poll promise, Choudhary responded, “During Lalu ji’s rule, only 12 lakh people received pensions. Today, more than 1.9 crore beneficiaries are receiving pension amounts directly in their bank accounts.”
He urged those left out of social security benefits to apply and assured them of government support.
‘Corruption in the RJD Family’
Taking a direct swipe at the RJD leadership, Choudhary said, “On one side, there is a government of good governance. On the other, there are people neck-deep in corruption father, mother, daughter, son the entire Lalu family. Their record in corruption is well known.”
He also hit back at Tejashwi Yadav’s repeated remarks suggesting CM Nitish Kumar was in an “unconscious” state. Choudhary said Kumar was fully aware and in command, contrasting this with the alleged chaos during Lalu’s time, when “ransom demands were made even from the Chief Minister’s residence.”
Responding to Tejashwi’s claims that Nitish Kumar’s aides were blocking his son Nishant Kumar’s political debut, Choudhary stated that only the Kumar family could decide Nishant’s political future. “The Lalu family doesn’t have the authority to decide for others,” he said.
RJD Hits Back
RJD chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav slammed Choudhary for his comments, reminding the public of Choudhary’s past criticism of Nitish Kumar. “Everyone knows how he once attacked Nitish ji and today he’s sitting in his lap,” Shakti Singh said. Defending Lalu Prasad, he added, “Lalu ji is a symbol of social justice who has fought for the rights of the weaker sections all his life unlike BJP leaders.”
The war of words marks yet another chapter in Bihar’s intensifying political battle ahead of the next assembly elections.
