Patna – In a major pre-poll move, the Bihar government has announced a significant hike in the monthly social security pension, increasing the amount by ₹700 for widows, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities. The revised pension will now be ₹1,100 per month, up from the earlier ₹400, starting July.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shared the announcement on social media platform X, stating, “I am happy to inform you that under the Social Security Pension Scheme, widowed women, the elderly, and disabled people will now receive ₹1,100 instead of ₹400 every month. The revised amount will be credited directly to beneficiaries’ accounts on the 10th of every month, starting July.”

This enhanced pension scheme is set to benefit nearly 1.10 crore people across Bihar, with the state government emphasizing timely and direct bank transfers to ensure transparency and efficiency.

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary hailed the decision, calling it a “historic day” for social welfare in Bihar. “The Chief Minister has taken a commendable step by increasing the pension amount for the most vulnerable sections of society. I thank him for this decision,” he said.

PM Modi’s Visit to Bihar

The announcement came a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Siwan district, where he launched and laid the foundation stone for various developmental projects worth over ₹5,200 crore. During his visit, he also paid homage at Baba Mahendra Nath and Baba Hans Nath temples and acknowledged the spiritual significance of Sohgara Dham.

Addressing a public gathering, the Prime Minister highlighted Bihar’s role in India’s growth story. “A prosperous Bihar will be a cornerstone in making India the third-largest economy in the world,” PM Modi said, signaling the BJP-led government’s development agenda in the poll-bound state.

With assembly elections on the horizon, the pension hike and Modi’s developmental push are being seen as key strategic moves to win public support and reinforce the ruling alliance’s position in Bihar.
