Bihar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday held a vibrant roadshow and addressed a public gathering in Siwan, Bihar, where he unveiled and laid the foundation stone for a series of ambitious development projects across multiple sectors including railways, power, water supply, and urban infrastructure.
In the presence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, PM Modi greeted thousands of enthusiastic citizens and emphasized the government’s commitment to accelerating the state’s infrastructure and socio-economic progress.
Major Announcements and Inaugurations
1. Rail Connectivity Boost:
PM Modi inaugurated the new Vaishali-Deoria railway line, a ₹400 crore project aimed at improving regional connectivity. He also flagged off a new train service along this route and launched the Vande Bharat Express connecting Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah, enhancing high-speed rail travel in North Bihar.
2. ‘Make in India’ Milestone – First Export Locomotive:
Marking a significant stride in the ‘Make in India – Make for the World’ initiative, the Prime Minister flagged off the first export locomotive manufactured at the Marhowra Plant for the Republic of Guinea. The state-of-the-art locomotive features cutting-edge technology including regenerative braking, AC propulsion, and ergonomic design.
3. Water and Sanitation Projects:
Under the Namami Gange Mission, PM Modi inaugurated six Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) worth ₹1,800 crore to improve water quality and sanitation in the region. He also laid the foundation stone for additional water supply and sanitation projects totaling ₹3,000 crore, aimed at providing clean drinking water across multiple towns in Bihar.
4. Power Sector Advancement – Battery Storage Systems:
In a major step towards energy efficiency, the Prime Minister launched the installation of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) with a total capacity of 500 MWh across 15 grid substations in Bihar. These will support smart power management and reduce costs for electricity distribution companies.
5. Affordable Housing for Urban Poor:
PM Modi released the first instalment under the PM Awas Yojana – Urban (PMAY-U) for over 53,600 beneficiaries, and also handed over keys to a few recipients, marking the Grih Pravesh of more than 6,600 completed houses across the state.
