In a shocking case of domestic violence, a 40-year-old man has been arrested in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district for brutally torturing his wife over suspicion of infidelity. The disturbing incident took place on June 13 and came to light after the woman was rescued by her brother two days later.

According to the police, the accused, Shatrughan Rai, not only inserted chilli powder into his wife’s private parts but also burned her thighs using a hot iron. The woman also alleged that he attempted to electrocute her and locked her inside a room without food or water for two days.

Neighbours Stayed Silent, Brother Rescued Her

Despite her desperate cries for help, none of the neighbours intervened, reportedly out of fear. It was only on June 15 that her brother reached the house and rescued her from the inhumane conditions. She was initially taken to Paroo Primary Health Centre and later referred to Shree Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) due to the severity of her injuries.

FIR Lodged Against Four Family Members

The 10-year-long marriage turned into a nightmare after the woman’s in-laws began suspecting her of having an extramarital affair. On June 16, she lodged an FIR against her husband, mother-in-law Dukhni Devi (45), brother-in-law Sumesh Rai (30), and sister-in-law Pushpa Devi (26). While Shatrughan Rai has been arrested, the other accused are currently absconding.“

The case is extremely serious. Charges of domestic violence and physical assault have been filed. Raids are being conducted to nab the remaining accused,” said Ram Vinay Kumar, a senior police officer.’

They Treated Me Worse Than Animals’: Survivor Speaks Out

The woman revealed that the abuse began six months ago when her husband and his family started accusing her of infidelity. “When I offered to take a medical test to prove my innocence, they threatened to kill me. Then, they did things even animals wouldn’t do,” she said tearfully.

The couple has three children. Authorities have assured the survivor of complete protection and support.
