A 9-year-old girl was found dead under suspicious circumstances in northeast Delhi’s Nehru Vihar on Saturday evening, with preliminary medical examination indicating possible sexual assault, according to police officials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (North East) Ashish Mishra confirmed that a distress call was received at Dayalpur police station at 8:41 PM on June 7, reporting the sexual assault of a minor. Responding officers learned that the unconscious child had been rushed to JPC Hospital by her father, where doctors declared her brought dead.
Hospital sources reportedly observed visible injuries on the child’s face, raising suspicions of sexual assault. Forensic and crime scene investigation teams have since examined the location as part of the ongoing probe.
The girl’s father told authorities that his daughter had gone to her aunt’s house nearby to collect ice on Saturday evening. When she failed to return after a considerable time, he began searching for her. He was later informed by children playing in the area that they had seen the girl entering a nearby house.
Upon reaching the house, which was locked from the outside, he and local residents broke in only to discover blood seeping from a suitcase inside. The child was found unconscious within the suitcase and was immediately taken to the hospital.
Police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities stated that multiple teams are working to gather evidence and identify the accused.
The investigation is ongoing.
