In the wake of the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium that claimed 11 lives and left 47 injured, the Karnataka High Court has directed the state government to submit a detailed report on the incident.

The matter was urgently brought before a bench comprising Acting Chief Justice V. Kameswar Rao and Justice C.M. Joshi on Thursday morning. The plea, filed by a concerned advocate, called for judicial intervention and accountability following the deadly incident.

Representing the state, Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty assured the bench that the government was taking all necessary steps to investigate the matter and would file a comprehensive factual report.”

This is not an adversarial issue. We are equally concerned and committed to identifying what went wrong. We welcome any suggestions from the court,” Shetty said during the proceedings.

The court has scheduled the next hearing today.

The stampede occurred on Wednesday evening during a massive public celebration organized to honor Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s historic IPL 2025 title win their first championship in 18 years. Thousands of fans had gathered near the stadium in anticipation of the team’s arrival, but chaos erupted when the crowd surged forward, triggering panic and a deadly crush.

Emergency services responded quickly, but the tragic toll included 11 confirmed deaths and at least 47 injuries.

The Cubbon Park Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) regarding the incident. The FIR currently lists the deaths as “unnatural” and does not name any specific individuals or organizations as accused. Further investigation is underway.

More updates are expected following the court’s hearing later today.
