Tributes Flow as Mukul Dev Passes Away at 54
Veteran actor and former model Mukul Dev, known for his work across Hindi, Punjabi, and South Indian cinema, has passed away at the age of 54. The cause of his death has not been officially disclosed.
Tributes have poured in from across the film and television industry. Actor Vindu Dara Singh confirmed the heartbreaking news and shared a heartfelt message on social media:“Rest in peace my brother #MukulDev! The time spent with you will always be cherished. #SonOfSardaar2 will be your swansong, where you will bring laughter and joy to the viewers one last time.”
Vindu further revealed that Mukul had become reclusive after the passing of his parents and had been in deteriorating health in recent days. He expressed his condolences to Mukul’s brother and loved ones, remembering him as an “amazing person” who will be deeply missed.
Actor Deepshika Nagpal expressed her disbelief, while Manoj Bajpayee wrote an emotional tribute:
“It’s impossible to put into words what I’m feeling. Mukul was a brother in spirit, an artist whose warmth and passion were unmatched. Gone too soon, too young. Praying for strength and healing for his family and everyone grieving this loss. Miss you meri jaan…until we meet again. Om Shanti.”
A Look Back at Mukul Dev’s Life and Career
Born on 17 September 1970 in New Delhi, Mukul Dev was a graduate of St. Columba’s School and held a certificate in aeronautics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aviation in Raebareli. He made his acting debut in 1996 with the television series Mumkin and entered films the same year with Dastak, starring alongside Sushmita Sen.
Over the years, he carved a unique space for himself in the industry, appearing in a wide range of films including Yamla Pagla Deewana, Son of Sardaar, R… Rajkumar, and Jai Ho. He also made a mark in regional cinema, acting in Punjabi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Bengali, and Malayalam films.
Reflecting on his journey, Mukul once said:”Even if I want to, I cannot complain. The kind of launch I got with Dastak, the films and TV shows that followed it’s been a fulfilling ride. I think I’ve done pretty alright for myself.”
He was particularly proud of the roles that were written with him in mind.”Somehow over the years, I’ve managed to create a space for myself. The roles I get like in Yamla Pagla Deewana or 21 Sarfarosh Saragarhi 1897 are ones that people believe only I can do. That’s very satisfying.”
