In a significant breakthrough against terrorism, Punjab Police have dismantled a terror module linked to the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), reportedly backed by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Six operatives have been arrested in Batala, senior police officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav identified the arrested individuals as Jatin Kumar alias Rohan, Barinder Singh alias Sajan, Rahul Masih, Abraham alias Rohit, Sohit, and Sunil Kumar. The module is believed to be behind a failed grenade attack outside a liquor shop in Batala last week.

According to the DGP, the accused were receiving direct instructions from Portugal-based handler Maninder Billa and BKI mastermind Mannu Agwan, who has recently taken over operational responsibilities following the arrest of Happy Passian in the United States.

During the course of the investigation, Jatin Kumar reportedly opened fire on police while being taken for evidence recovery. He was injured in retaliatory firing and is currently receiving treatment at the Civil Hospital in Batala.

An FIR has been registered at the Civil Lines Police Station in Batala under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Police recovered a .30 bore pistol from the accused. Further investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the module’s activities and international links.
