Prashant Kishor Denied Entry to Nitish Kumar’s Native Village Amid Signature Campaign

By The Sampadak Express

Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor was stopped by police on Sunday from entering Kalyan Bigha, the native village of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Kishor was scheduled to launch a signature campaign there, targeting alleged unfulfilled promises by the state government.

In a video shared widely on social media, Kishor is seen confronting local authorities and questioning the legal grounds for the restriction. “Was there no law and order situation when I visited other villages?” he asked, demanding a written explanation from the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM).“

You will lose your job,” Kishor warned the officer during a tense exchange, after police barricaded the main road into the village using vehicles and fencing. The administration claimed the move was due to the absence of official permission and potential law-and-order concerns raised by local complaints.”

You need permission as there might be a law-and-order situation. People have filed a complaint,” the SDM explained. He also added, “If my intention had been to stop you, I would have done it in Bihar Sharif.”

Kishor dismissed the justification, alleging that the administration acted under political pressure. “I’ve been visiting villages across Bihar without needing permission. Why now?” he asked.

After being denied entry, Kishor held a public gathering in Bihar Sharif, where he officially launched the Jan Suraaj Party’s statewide signature campaign.

The campaign seeks accountability from the Nitish Kumar-led government on three major issues:

1. The unfulfilled promise of Rs 2 lakh each to 94 lakh poor families identified in the caste survey

2. The pledge to allot three decimals of land to Mahadalit families

3. Alleged corruption in the ongoing land survey

The Jan Suraaj Party aims to collect one crore signatures from 40,000 villages by July 11. If the state government fails to respond within a month, the signatures will be submitted to the Governor and the Chief Minister, Kishor said.
