Patna: In a significant political development ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections, former Union Minister RCP Singh joined Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party on Sunday. He also announced the merger of his own political outfit, Aap Sabki Awaz, with Jan Suraaj.

Singh, a former IAS officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre and a native of Nalanda, made the announcement in the presence of Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor. “Both of us will work together to make Bihar a developed state,” Singh said at the formal induction ceremony.

RCP Singh had launched Aap Sabki Awaz in November 2024 after a series of political shifts. He began his political career after taking voluntary retirement in 2010 to join the Janata Dal (United) under the mentorship of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. His close association with Kumar began in 1999 when Singh, then on central deputation, worked with Kumar during his tenure as Railway Minister.

Following Kumar’s return to power in Bihar in 2005, Singh served as his principal secretary before transitioning to active politics. He enjoyed two consecutive terms in the Rajya Sabha and served as JD(U)’s national president. However, his induction into the Union Cabinet in 2021 reportedly strained ties with Kumar. He was subsequently denied a third Rajya Sabha term and stepped down from party leadership.

In 2023, Singh joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after parting ways with JD(U). His latest move to align with Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party is seen as a strategic step to reshape his political journey ahead of the crucial Bihar polls.
