The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has announced the suspension of all academic agreements with universities in Turkey, citing the ongoing geopolitical situation.
In an official statement shared via its X (formerly Twitter) handle, the institute said: “Due to the current geopolitical situation involving Turkey, IIT Bombay is processing suspension of its agreements with Turkish universities until further notice.”

The move includes a halt on existing student and faculty exchange programs with Turkish institutions. This decision aligns with similar actions taken by other Indian institutes, including IIT Roorkee, which recently paused its collaborative engagements with Turkish universities.
The backdrop to this development includes Turkey’s vocal support for Pakistan and its criticism of India’s military operations in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) under Operation Sindoor. Additionally, Pakistan reportedly deployed Turkish drones during its recent military standoff with India, further straining ties.
IIT Bombay’s decision underscores the growing impact of international diplomacy on academic collaboration.
