Mumbai: High alert was declared at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and the iconic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel after a bomb threat email was received by Mumbai Airport Police. The threat, sent directly to the official police email ID, cited the “unjust” executions of convicted terrorists Afzal Guru and Saibabu Shankar (also known as Saivakkun Shankar) as motivation for the alleged attack.

According to officials, the email warned of imminent attacks on these two high-profile locations, triggering an immediate security response. Police teams swiftly initiated searches at both the airport and the hotel premises. As of now, no suspicious items or activities have been detected.

Mumbai Police are actively tracing the origin of the threat email. Security has been intensified not only at the mentioned sites but also across key infrastructure points throughout the city.

Earlier Threat at Maharashtra Secretariat

Just days earlier, on May 13, a similar threat was issued via email to the Maharashtra Secretariat (Mantralaya) in South Mumbai. The anonymous message, sent to the Disaster Management Control Room, warned of a bomb blast within 48 hours, though it did not specify a location. A comprehensive search of the premises yielded no findings.

In response, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) was alerted, and a case was registered at the Marine Drive Police Station.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as investigations are underway to identify the individual or group behind these threats. Citizens have been urged to remain calm and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.
