In a significant diplomatic initiative, the Indian government is set to dispatch multi-party parliamentary delegations across the globe to expose Pakistan’s role in the recent Pahalgam terror attack and rally international support against cross-border terrorism.
The outreach, taking place from May 22 to June 1, marks the first time elected representatives from across India’s political spectrum will serve as diplomatic emissaries to present the nation’s stance on terrorism on an international platform.
48-Member Delegation to be Split Into Eight Groups
According to government sources, Parliamentary and Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju will oversee the initiative, with the 48-member team divided into eight smaller delegations, each comprising 6–8 MPs. These teams will travel to key countries across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and North America.
Prominent MPs from both ruling and opposition parties have been included, such as BJP’s Anurag Thakur and Ravi Shankar Prasad, Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor, Manish Tewari, and Salman Khurshid, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Priyanka Chaturvedi, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, and others.
Congress Confirms Participation Amid Political Critique
While the Congress party expressed discontent over the Modi government’s refusal to convene an all-party meeting or a special parliamentary session on the Pahalgam attack, it has confirmed its participation in the diplomatic mission.“
In the supreme national interest, the Congress will take part in these delegations,” said party communications head Jairam Ramesh. He, however, criticized the BJP for “politicising national security” and bypassing traditional platforms for consensus-building.
Delegation Goals: Global Support and Narrative Correction
Each group will meet with foreign governments, institutions, and think tanks to present evidence linking Pakistan to the April terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, and to explain India’s retaliatory “Operation Sindoor” a strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied regions.
The campaign aims to counter Pakistan’s global narrative, especially amid its renewed push to internationalise the Kashmir issue, and recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump.“
The goal is to correct misinformation and secure greater international support,” a senior official involved in the planning told media outlets.
MEA and Intelligence Agencies Crafting Briefs
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), in coordination with intelligence and defence agencies, is preparing detailed dossiers, talking points, and intelligence inputs for each team. Indian missions abroad will facilitate the MPs’ travel and meetings, ensuring strategic support on the ground.
Key Delegation Assignments
South and Southeast Asia: Led by former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid; countries include Japan, South Korea, and Singapore.
Middle East and Africa: Led by Supriya Sule; to visit Oman, Egypt, Kenya, and South Africa. Anurag Thakur will join this group.
United States: Shashi Tharoor expected to head this delegation.
Europe or Middle East: Manish Tewari being considered as group lead.
Saudi Arabia, Algeria, Kuwait, Bahrain: Priyanka Chaturvedi and Congress MP Amar Singh to participate.
Additional delegations: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Aparajita Sarangi, and others will lead or join visits to various regions.
Each group is expected to cover four to five nations over ten days. MEA briefings for all participating MPs are scheduled before their departure.
Broader Strategy
This global diplomatic blitz, spanning continents, is designed not only to isolate Pakistan on the terror issue but also to reinforce India’s credibility and resolve ahead of critical global summits and bilateral discussions.
