India Slams China’s Renaming of Arunachal Pradesh Locations as “Preposterous and Vain”

India has strongly rejected China’s repeated attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh, calling the move “vain” and “preposterous,” and reaffirmed that the northeastern state remains an integral and inalienable part of the country.

Responding to media queries, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal dismissed Beijing’s latest renaming effort, stating that no amount of “creative naming” would change the ground reality.“

We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically,” said Jaiswal. “Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”

This isn’t the first time India has pushed back against China’s claims. External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar has previously addressed similar actions by China with pointed clarity. “If today I change the name of your house, will it become mine?” he remarked. “Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always be a state of India. Changing names does not have an effect.”

Calling such actions “senseless,” Jaishankar reiterated that no amount of repetition would lend legitimacy to China’s claims. “I hope I am saying it so clearly that not only in the country but beyond the country also, people get that message very, very clearly,” he asserted.

India has consistently rebuffed China’s attempts to assert territorial claims through symbolic gestures like renaming, maintaining that such moves hold no legal or political standing.
