Pakistan Terms Modi’s Remarks “Provocative and Inflammatory”
A day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the success of Operation Sindoor, a major counter-terror military strike by Indian armed forces, Pakistan has responded sharply, rejecting the Indian leader’s remarks as “provocative and inflammatory.”
In his national address on Monday, PM Modi commended the Indian military for neutralizing key terror infrastructure across Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of dozens of terrorists, including several high value targets. He warned Islamabad that India had only paused retaliatory actions not ended them and emphasized that the ceasefire was initiated at Pakistan’s request.
Modi reiterated India’s firm stance on terrorism, saying, “Terror and talks cannot go together, terror and trade cannot go hand-in-hand, and water and blood cannot flow together.”
Pakistan’s Reaction
In a statement released by its foreign ministry and reported by Reuters, Pakistan rejected PM Modi’s comments, stating: “Pakistan rejects provocative and inflammatory assertions by the Indian prime minister.” The ministry added that Islamabad remains committed to the recent ceasefire understanding and is taking steps to ensure de-escalation and regional stability.
Pakistan also urged India to prioritize peace in the region and warned that any future aggression would be “met with full resolve.”
Modi’s Stern Message to Pakistan
Speaking to Indian Air Force personnel at the Adampur air base in Punjab on Tuesday, PM Modi reinforced his tough message: “India stands for peace, but if provoked, it will make the enemy bite the dust.” His remarks come amid heightened tensions following Operation Sindoor, which was launched in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 civilians were killed by militants with alleged links to Pakistan.
Ceasefire and Ongoing Tensions
Following four days of heavy cross-border military exchanges, India and Pakistan reached a ceasefire understanding on Saturday, mediated by U.S. President Donald Trump. However, the truce was quickly undermined as Pakistani drones were reportedly intercepted over Jammu, Srinagar, Punjab, and Rajasthan within hours of the announcement.
Further drone activity was observed on Monday night shortly after Modi’s national address, though no significant escalation was reported thereafter.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, targeted nine terror facilities and marked one of the most assertive Indian military actions in recent years. The current ceasefire remains fragile amid concerns over renewed cross-border hostilities.
