In a bold and decisive counter terrorism move, India launched a large scale military operation in the early hours of Tuesday, targeting terror infrastructure deep inside Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The joint operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, involved coordinated strikes by the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy.
According to high-level defence and intelligence sources, nine major terrorist camps affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen were struck. The operation is said to have resulted in the elimination of approximately 80 to 90 terrorists.
Key Targets and Locations
With intelligence support from the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW), the Indian forces identified and neutralized the following key terror hubs:
1. Bahawalpur, Pakistan – JeM headquarters, 100 km inside Pakistan.
2. Muridke, Pakistan – LeT base, associated with the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, 30 km from the border.
3. Gulpur, PoK – Training and accommodation centre near Punch-Rajouri, 35 km from the LoC.
4. Sawai Camp, PoK (Tangdhar Sector) – LeT facility, 30 km from the LoC.
5. Bilal Camp, PoK – JeM launchpad.
6. Kotli, PoK – LeT base, 15 km from the LoC.
7. Barnala Camp, PoK – Suspected LeT/JeM base, 10 km from the LoC.
8. Sarjal Camp, near Samba/Kathua border – JeM facility, 8 km from the international border.
9. Mehmoona Camp, near Sialkot, Pakistan – Hizbul Mujahideen training base, 15 km from the border.

Seven of these camps belonging to Jaish and Lashkar have reportedly been completely destroyed, along with two bases used by Hizbul Mujahideen.
Casualties and Reactions
Sources estimate that the highest number of casualties occurred at the Bahawalpur and Muridke camps, with between 25 and 30 militants killed in those two locations alone.
Pakistan’s military acknowledged the strikes, confirming that 24 missiles were fired at six different locations. Their official statement reports eight fatalities and 33 injuries. India, however, has not issued a formal response to Pakistan’s claims.
Background and Context
The strikes come in the aftermath of a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, which claimed 26 civilian lives. Indian authorities have described Operation Sindoor as a “zero tolerance” response to cross-border terrorism.
A senior defence official stated, “This operation sends a clear message India will not hesitate to strike at the heart of terror networks wherever they exist.”
