A joyous wedding celebration turned into a scene of tragedy in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi district after a dispute over tandoori roti led to the deaths of two teenage guests.
The incident occurred in a village in the Gairiganj area during the wedding of Ramjeevan Varma’s daughter. According to reports, 18-year-old Ravi Kumar, also known as Kallu, and a 17-year-old boy got into a heated argument over who would be served tandoori roti first. The verbal spat quickly escalated into a violent confrontation, with both teens attacking each other using sticks.
Eyewitnesses said the altercation turned brutal, leaving both boys severely injured. The 17-year-old died at the scene, while Ravi succumbed to his injuries en route to a trauma center.”
We were all busy with the wedding preparations when we were suddenly told about the fight. By the time we reached, the boys had already seriously injured each other. All this over a roti,” said Ramjeevan Varma.
Police, led by Gairiganj Circle Officer Akhilesh Varma, have taken custody of the bodies and sent them for postmortem examination. Officials confirmed that further legal proceedings will be carried out based on the autopsy report.
The incident has left the local community in shock and cast a shadow over what was meant to be a celebratory occasion.
