Passenger Criticizes Air India Over Flight Delay Amid Heavy Rainfall in Delhi; Airline Respond

By The Sampadak Express

A passenger has expressed frustration on social media over a prolonged delay in an Air India flight at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, as heavy rain and thunderstorms disrupted flight operations across the city.

The disgruntled flyer, Mr. Rana, took to X (formerly Twitter) to voice his dissatisfaction: “Every @airindia flight seems to be delayed by 1-2 hours—zero respect for passengers’ time. No improvement, no accountability. It’s shameful that we compare ourselves to Pakistan instead of China who is 100 years ahead of us,” he posted. He further lamented the lack of compensation and the rigid non-refundable ticket policy, calling it a “tragedy.”

In response, Air India clarified that the delay was weather-related. “Dear Mr. Rana, the flight is delayed due to adverse weather conditions in Delhi. Please be assured that the safety of our passengers remains our highest priority. We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding,” the airline replied on X.

Meanwhile, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) issued a public advisory, stating that several flights had been affected due to thunderstorms and strong winds sweeping through Delhi and the NCR region. “Our on-ground teams are diligently working with all stakeholders to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience. Passengers are requested to contact the airline concerned for updated flight information,” DIAL said.

Following a brief lull, DIAL noted in a follow-up update that although the thunderstorm had subsided, residual weather impacts were still causing disruptions. “All stakeholders are working together to ensure a seamless and efficient passenger experience,” it added.

While the downpour brought a welcome break from the scorching heat in the capital, it also triggered waterlogging and tree uprooting in several parts of the city, further straining transportation and flight operations.

Travel Advisory:

Passengers flying in or out of Delhi are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates on flight schedules.
