Follows Mother Dairy’s price increase amid rising input costs

In a move impacting consumers across the country, Amul has announced a price hike of Rs 2 per litre on all its fresh pouch milk variants, effective May 1. The decision comes just a day after Mother Dairy raised its milk prices by up to Rs 2 per litre on April 30.

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which markets Amul products, stated that the Rs 2 increase translates to a 3–4% rise in maximum retail price (MRP), still below the average food inflation rate.

Following the revision, in major markets like Delhi, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh, Amul Taaza’s 1-litre pouch will now cost Rs 57, Cow milk Rs 59, Gold Rs 69, and Buffalo milk Rs 75. In Ahmedabad, Saurashtra, and Kutch, the new prices are Rs 55 for Cow milk, Rs 67 for Gold, Rs 73 for Buffalo milk, and Rs 63 for T-Special.

In Gujarat, 500-ml packs have also seen a revision: Shakti will now be priced at Rs 31, Cow milk at Rs 29, and Taaza at Rs 28.

GCMMF highlighted that it had previously offered bonus quantities of 50 ml and 100 ml on 1-litre and 2-litre packs for nearly five months in 2024. Additionally, the federation had reduced prices by Re 1 per litre in January 2025 and had not implemented any price hike since June 2024.

The federation attributed the latest increase to a rise in input and production costs, which it says has also led to an increase in procurement prices paid to its 3.6 million milk producers.“

Amul passes on nearly 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers directly to milk producers. The revision is aimed at sustaining remunerative prices for farmers and encouraging higher milk production,” GCMMF said in its statement.
