Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made headlines after smashing a record-breaking century in the IPL. The young prodigy’s explosive knock came against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, where he led Rajasthan Royals to a dominant 8-wicket victory.
Suryavanshi, hailing from Bihar, created history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in T20 cricket at just 14 years and 32 days old. His spectacular performance also made him the second-fastest centurion in IPL history, after Chris Gayle’s iconic 30-ball century in 2013. His aggressive batting left Gujarat Titans’ experienced bowling attack — with a combined total of 694 international caps — stunned before he was eventually dismissed by a pinpoint yorker from Prasidh Krishna.
Recognizing this extraordinary feat, CM Nitish Kumar took to social media platform X to congratulate the teenager, recalling a prior meeting with Vaibhav and his father in 2024. “Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket. Everyone is proud of him,” the Chief Minister wrote.
The state government will be awarding Vaibhav a prize of Rs 10 lakh in recognition of his talent and hard work. Nitish Kumar also expressed hope that the youngster will continue to break records and bring pride to the nation.
Union Minister Chirag Paswan also praised the young cricketer, saying, “On behalf of the party, I wish him all the best. He is a young talent and has made such a beautiful start at such a young age. His future is very bright.”
With the cricketing world taking notice, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is being hailed as a future star of Indian cricket.
