The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has officially taken charge of the investigation into the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 26 civilians. The move comes after the Union Ministry of Home Affairs directed the federal agency to handle the high-profile case.
Since Wednesday, NIA teams have been on the ground at Baisaran Valley, the site of the deadly attack. Led by senior officers including an Inspector General (IG), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Superintendent of Police (SP), the teams have intensified the search for clues and are meticulously piecing together the sequence of events.
The investigative teams are gathering eyewitness testimonies and speaking with the families of the victims to build a comprehensive timeline. Officials said statements from those who directly witnessed the incident are proving vital to understanding how the attack was executed.

NIA Expands Investigation to Other States
In connection with the case, a three-member NIA team visited Balasore district in Odisha on Saturday. The officers recorded the statement of Priya Darshani Achariya, wife of Prashant Satpathy, a CIPET employee and one of the victims. Achariya and her 9-year-old son, Tanuj, were eyewitnesses to the attack and are considered key witnesses in the case.
Authorities stated that no other family members were present in the room during her questioning, indicating the sensitivity and importance of her statement.
Meanwhile, another NIA team reached Kolkata to meet with the families of West Bengal victims. The officers visited the residences of Samir Guha in Behala and Bitan Adhikari in Baishnabghata to record their families’ statements. Both men, along with Manish Ranjan of Jhalda in Purulia district, were among the 26 civilians killed.
Officials confirmed that the NIA’s investigation will span multiple states as they trace links and gather intelligence to uncover the full scale of the planning behind one of the worst terror incidents in recent times in Kashmir.
