6 Sanitation Workers Killed, 5 Injured as Speeding Van Ploughs into Crew on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway

By The Sampadak Express

In a devastating accident on Saturday morning, six sanitation workers lost their lives and five others were critically injured when a speeding pickup van struck them during routine maintenance work on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Ibrahim Bas village in the Firozpur Jhirka area of Nuh district.

The tragic incident occurred around 10 a.m. as the workers, mostly women, were carrying out cleaning operations along the high-speed corridor. Authorities confirmed that the impact of the collision was so severe that all six deceased—five from Kheri Kalan village and one from Jhimrawat—died on the spot. Formal identification of the victims is still underway.

Police officials said the driver of the van fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle at the crash site. “Police teams are collecting evidence and investigating the matter thoroughly,” said DSP Ajaib Singh. SHO Aman Singh added that CCTV footage is being reviewed to reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the cause of the crash.

The injured—four women and one man—were rushed to Mandi Khera Hospital and are currently undergoing treatment.

Initial reports suggest that the pickup van was traveling at a high speed from Delhi toward Alwar when the driver lost control, ramming into the workers. The authorities have stated that a formal FIR will be registered following completion of the identification process and preliminary investigation.

The incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for robust safety measures for maintenance crews working on expressways. Experts are calling for better visibility gear, designated safety zones, and stricter enforcement of speed limits to prevent such tragedies in the future.
