Search and cordon operations are underway in the dense forest area of Marta village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district following an encounter between security forces and suspected terrorists.
According to Udhampur SSP Amod Ashok Nagpure, intelligence inputs indicated the presence of two to three terrorists hiding deep within a heavily forested, mountainous region with challenging terrain.”
This is a very inaccessible area with high mountains, a river, and dense forest. We received information that 2–3 terrorists are hiding in the jungle. The search operation is ongoing,” SSP Nagpure said.
The encounter, which began during a joint operation by the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and other security forces, lasted around two hours on Wednesday, with troops retaliating to terrorist fire. The terrorists were reportedly encountered near the village of Jopher, falling under the jurisdiction of PS Ramnagar.
Despite the difficult geography, SSP Nagpure affirmed that the morale of the troops remains high and all personnel involved in the operation are safe and unharmed.
The entire area has been cordoned off to prevent any escape, and search efforts are being intensified to neutralize the threat. Security forces are also ensuring the safety of civilians in the region.
