A 19-year-old girl in Varanasi has filed a police complaint alleging she was raped by 23 men, who also shot videos of the act, over a period of seven days since she left home on March 29. The victim named 12 accused individuals in her complaint, while the remaining 11 were described as unidentified men.
The victim, who was preparing for admission into a sports course, had gone missing from her home on March 29. Her family filed a missing person complaint on April 4, and she was found the same day. However, the sexual assault complaint was only registered on April 6, after her mother approached the Lalpur Pandeypur police station.
According to the complaint, the victim met her friend Raj Vishwakarma on March 29, who took her to a hotel where he allegedly raped her and shot a video. When she tried to leave the next day, Raj and his friends, including Sameer and Ayush Singh, threatened to make the video viral on social media if she didn’t stay. They then allegedly raped her, and the victim was kept in the hotel for a day.
The police have taken six individuals into custody in connection with the incident, including Sajid, Ayush Singh, Danish Khan, Anmol, Imran, and one more person. The investigation is ongoing, with the police examining CCTV footage and questioning staff members of a local hookah bar to verify the victim’s account and identify the remaining accused.
DCP Chandra Kant Meena of Varuna Zone stated that the girl had initially gone out with a friend and clarified that she is not a minor. The police are working to verify specific details mentioned in the FIR and apprehend the remaining accused.
The victim, who has five siblings, had been participating in athletic events at the school and college level. She was also working at a spa center in a city hotel alongside her studies. Her mother claimed that the victim would often be away from home for a couple of days for work, but this time she was away for a week.
The case is currently under investigation, with the police working to gather evidence and bring all the accused to justice. The victim’s refusal to undergo a medical examination has not hindered the investigation, as the police are relying on other evidence and witness statements to build their case.
