An Indian-origin man and his daughter were tragically shot dead at a convenience store in Accomack County, Virginia, on Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through the local Indian community.
Pradipkumar Patel, 56, and his daughter were working at a relative’s store on Lankford Highway when the attack occurred. According to authorities, the sheriff’s office received a call about the shooting just after 5:30 a.m. on March 20. Upon arrival, officers found Patel suffering from gunshot wounds and unresponsive at the scene.
They also discovered his daughter, who had been shot as well. While Patel was pronounced dead on the spot, his daughter, whose identity had not yet been confirmed, was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Unfortunately, she later succumbed to her injuries.
Suspect Arrested
Authorities announced Thursday that they had arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting. George Frazier Devon White, 44, from Onancock, was taken into custody without bond. According to Accomack County Sheriff W Todd Wessells, White faces several charges, including first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a felon, and two counts of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
At this time, the motive behind the shooting has not been disclosed.In an emotional interview, the store’s owner, Paresh Patel, explained the tragic event to Virginia’s WAYV-TV. “My cousin’s wife and her dad were working this morning, and some guy came here and shot them,” he said. “I don’t know what to do.”
The incident has left the local community in shock, with many expressing their grief and disbelief over the senseless violence. Authorities continue to investigate the case.
