A Bengaluru-based software engineer, identified as Srikant, has filed a complaint against his wife, alleging physical and mental harassment. He claims that his wife demanded Rs 5,000 per day from him to live together and accused her of physically assaulting him, including an attempt to harm his private parts.
Srikant posted a video online where his wife can allegedly be seen making the financial demand, sparking significant online reactions. He further claims that the wife not only asked for money but also made other demands, including insisting on adoption over having a biological child, citing concerns about how pregnancy might affect her physical appearance.
According to Srikant, these disagreements over family planning escalated into frequent disputes, putting a strain on their marriage. The couple, who married in 2022, has reportedly been facing constant tension, with Srikant claiming his wife has been creating disturbances during his work hours, which led to him losing his job. He states that she would often play loud music and dance around while he was working.
The situation reportedly worsened when Srikant requested a divorce, only for his wife to demand Rs 45 lakh from him. He further alleges that she threatened self-harm if he did not comply with her demand.
After the case gained media attention, Srikant’s wife denied all allegations, claiming that he was attempting to defame her and manipulate public opinion with the fabricated accusations.
The police have registered the case as a non-cognizable report (NCR), noting discrepancies in Srikant’s complaint, as he did not mention the daily demand of Rs 5,000 in his written statement. Authorities are continuing to investigate the matter, with the case still unfolding.
