In a shocking incident, a 32-year-old man from Sunrakh village in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, attempted to operate on his own stomach by watching YouTube tutorials, resulting in serious complications. Raja Babu, a graduate in business administration, had been suffering from abdominal pain for months and, frustrated with medical consultations, took matters into his own hands.
Raja Babu gathered materials, including a blade, sedative injection, needle, and plastic thread, from YouTube tutorials. On Wednesday, he cut open his stomach and attempted to stitch it up with 11 stitches. However, the pain became unbearable, and his relatives rushed him to the district hospital.
Doctors at the district hospital refused to admit Raja Babu due to the severity of his condition and referred him to SN Medical College in Agra after administering first aid. A doctor at the district hospital revealed that Raja Babu had undergone an appendicitis operation 15 years ago. The fresh bout of pain led him to inflict a seven-inch cut on his abdomen, which posed a high risk of infection.
Raja Babu claimed that he had been suffering from pain for four months, and doctors failed to diagnose the cause despite an ultrasound. In desperation, he decided to take matters into his own hands, attempting to cut open his stomach to investigate the issue. He even tried to pull out “something” from his stomach but was unsuccessful.
Raja Babu is currently stable and recovering. The incident raises concerns about the dangers of self-medication and the importance of seeking proper medical attention. The incident is a stark reminder of the risks of relying on online tutorials for medical procedures.
