A tragic road accident occurred near Amrapali Complex in Karelibag, Vadodara, on the night of March 13, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to seven others. The incident took place at 11:41 PM when an overspeeding car, driven by Rakshit Chaurasia, collided with several two-wheelers. The victims were rushed to Shukan Hospital, Doshi Hospital, Zydus Hospital, and SSG Hospital.
The accused, Rakshit Chaurasia, a law student from Varanasi who resides in Bhayli, Vadodara, was visibly intoxicated, possibly under the influence of drugs. Locals, who chased and caught him after the accident, beat him up before police arrived. The car involved in the accident, a black Volkswagen Virtus GT Plus, belonged to Mit Chauhan’s father. Mit Chauhan, who was in the car as a passenger, fled the scene, but police later detained him for questioning. Police are also looking for Suresh Bharwad, who was with the group before the incident.

CCTV footage revealed that the overspeeding car struck three two-wheelers, including a motorcycle, a scooter, and an electric vehicle. The accident fatally injured Hemali Purav Patel (40) and seriously injured her husband, Purav Dipakbhai Patel (42). Additionally, three members of the Shah family—Nishaben (35), Rensi (10), and Jimmi Shah (15)—suffered injuries. The Shahs were on their way to purchase colors for the upcoming Dhuleti festival.
Eyewitnesses reported that Rakshit was heard calling out “Aum Namah Shivay” while being surrounded by locals after the accident. His LinkedIn profile also included a banner featuring Lord Shiva, raising speculation that he may have consumed cannabis or other drugs. Medical investigations are underway to determine the substances involved, with a Swedish vodka bottle thrown from the car after the crash suggesting alcohol consumption.

As a result of the accident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) city unit of Vadodara announced the cancellation of its Rang Utsav event, scheduled for Dhuleti, in response to the tragic incident. City BJP chief Dr. Jayprakash Soni confirmed the decision via a tweet.
The police are continuing their investigation, and further details are awaited.
