The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Thursday that students who are unable to attend the board examination on March 15 due to Holi celebrations will be given an opportunity to appear for a special exam at a later date. This special exam is typically held for students involved in national or international sports events.
According to CBSE Examination Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj that although Holi will be celebrated on March 14 in most regions, some areas may hold celebrations on March 15, or the festivities may extend into that day. After receiving feedback on this, the board decided to offer an alternate exam for students who are unable to take the exam on the scheduled date.
Bhardwaj further confirmed that while the exam will proceed as per the original schedule, students facing difficulties due to Holi may choose to sit for the examination on a later date, alongside those athletes taking the special exam. The ongoing Class 10 and Class 12 board examinations began on February 15, with more than 44 lakh students from approximately 8,000 schools across India and abroad participating in the exams.
CBSE has implemented strict guidelines to ensure exam integrity. All regular students are required to wear school uniforms, while private candidates should wear light-colored clothing. The board has also listed prohibited items, such as mobile phones, Bluetooth devices, smartwatches, cameras, unauthorized study materials, wallets, handbags, goggles, and pouches, from the exam halls. Food and drinks are only permitted for diabetic students with prior approval.
The Class 10 exams will run until March 18, and the Class 12 exams are scheduled to conclude on April 4. This year, the board has provided ample gaps between major subjects to ease the examination process for students.
