BJP Sweeps Haryana Civic Polls, Congress Faces Major Setback

By The Sampadak Express

In a stunning victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the party secured a dominant position in the Haryana municipal elections, winning mayoral races in major cities including Ambala, Gurugram, Hisar, Karnal, Rohtak, Faridabad, Yamunanagar, Panipat, and Sonipat. The only exception was in Manesar, where independent candidate Inderjit Yadav triumphed over the BJP contender.

The Congress Party, hoping to bounce back after its defeat in the 2024 assembly elections, suffered a significant blow as it was unable to make any substantial gains in the civic polls.

The elections, which took place on March 2, 2025, saw voting for mayors and ward members in seven municipal corporations – Gurugram, Manesar, Faridabad, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal, and Yamunanagar. Additionally, bypolls for the mayoral posts in Ambala and Sonipat, along with elections for municipal committees in 21 areas, were also held on the same day. Panipat held its election on March 9, 2025, for the mayor and 26 councillors.

Notable Wins and Big MarginsBJP’s Parveen Joshi won the Faridabad mayoral election by a record-breaking margin of 3.16 lakh votes, the highest in the country. Raj Rani from Gurugram also secured a significant victory with over 1.79 lakh votes. Other notable BJP winners include Rajiv Jain from Sonipat and Renu Bala Gupta from Karnal.

Rohtak: A Major Setback for Congress

In Rohtak, BJP’s Ram Avtar Valmiki emerged victorious, defeating Congress’s Suraj Mal Kiloi by a margin of 45,198 votes. Valmiki polled 1,02,269 votes, while Kiloi secured only 57,071 votes. This defeat was especially significant for Congress, as it came in the face of the party’s victory in all four assembly seats in the region during the 2024 state election.

Congress Faces Defections

The Congress suffered additional setbacks as several of its workers and leaders switched allegiance to the BJP ahead of the municipal elections, further solidifying BJP’s dominance in Haryana.

The Haryana State Election Commission, in coordination with district administrations, ensured smooth conduct of the counting process. The results mark a significant triumph for the BJP and a major blow to Congress in the state’s political landscape.
