Date:

Bengaluru, Karnataka – Kannada actress Ranya Rao, known for her role in the hit film “Maanikya” alongside superstar Sudeep, was arrested at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on Monday night for allegedly smuggling 14.8 kilograms of gold. The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) apprehended Rao, leading to her subsequent appearance before an economic offences court, which remanded her to 14 days of judicial custody.

Sampadak Express Investigates: Who is Ranya Rao?

Ranya Rao, 33, gained prominence in the Kannada film industry with her appearance in “Maanikya” (2014) and has since featured in other South Indian productions. The actress’s arrest has sent shockwaves through the industry, raising serious questions about her involvement in a potential smuggling network.

Suspicious Travel Patterns Trigger DRI Investigation:

According to sources, Rao’s frequent trips to Dubai over a short period raised red flags. Authorities noted that she had traveled to Dubai four times within 15 days, prompting a targeted operation upon her return on Monday. Officials are now investigating whether she acted alone or was part of a larger, organized smuggling syndicate operating between Dubai and India.

Family Ties Under Scrutiny:

Adding another layer of complexity to the case, Ranya Rao is the stepdaughter of K. Ramachandra Rao, a senior IPS officer and Director-General of Police (DGP) at the Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation. This connection has intensified public interest and scrutiny, as authorities delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding her arrest.
