AAP’s Gopal Rai Predicts Delhi Could Have 3 BJP CMs in the Next Five Years

Gopal Rai, senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Delhi minister, has strongly criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its delay in appointing a chief minister for Delhi. He warned that, like during the last BJP tenure, the city could see three different CMs over the next five years due to the party’s ongoing leadership crisis.

Despite securing a convincing electoral victory, the BJP has struggled to name a CM, pointing to internal rifts and power struggles within the party. Rai noted that even 10 days after the election results, the BJP still hasn’t made a decision, suggesting the party lacks a clear leader.

History Could Repeat Itself

Rai predicted that the BJP’s indecision could result in a situation similar to their previous term in Delhi, when three different BJP CMs—Madan Lal Khurana, Sahib Singh Verma, and Sushma Swaraj—held office. “The delay in choosing a CM highlights the party’s internal divisions. Whoever becomes the CM will likely face challenges from other factions within the BJP,” he said, adding that history might repeat itself if the party fails to resolve its internal conflicts.

He further criticized the BJP for attempting to influence the election process, claiming the party used various tactics, including working with the Election Commission. “Despite all their efforts, the people of Delhi chose to stand with us, and we’re grateful for their support,” Rai said, referring to AAP’s strong opposition role.

AAP Prepares to Take Action

Rai made it clear that AAP would continue to serve as a robust opposition, holding the BJP accountable for its promises to the people of Delhi. With the BJP still undecided on its CM, AAP has begun its preparations to take the next steps in their political agenda.”

We were waiting for them to make a decision, but we can’t wait any longer. Since they haven’t named a CM yet, we are starting our work now,” said Rai, signaling AAP’s readiness to intensify its efforts. AAP will also determine the Leader of Opposition once the BJP announces its CM and cabinet members.

BJP’s Return to Delhi Politics

This marks the first time in 26 years that the BJP will form a government in Delhi. The last time the BJP held power in the city was in 1993, when it had three different CMs. The BJP won 48 seats in the recent Delhi Assembly elections, while AAP secured 22. This marked the end of AAP’s decade-long dominance, during which it won 62 out of 70 seats in 2020, leaving the BJP with just eight.

The political contest between AAP and BJP continues to heat up, with the BJP’s indecision fueling speculation about deep divisions within the party. As the leadership drama unfolds, both parties are gearing up for a new phase of political battles in Delhi.
