A fire erupted at an ashram in Sector 19 of the Maha Kumbh Mela area in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday, engulfing seven tents. The blaze, which occurred amid the heavy weekend rush at the Mela, prompted a swift response from the local fire department. Fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the scene and successfully brought the flames under control, preventing further damage.
This incident comes just two days after a similar fire broke out in Sector 6 of the Mela area, causing panic among attendees. Fire brigade teams responded quickly to the situation, containing the fire and preventing a larger disaster. Thankfully, no casualties were reported in either fire, and the investigation into the causes of these incidents is ongoing.
Prayagraj’s Additional Director General of Police, Bhanu Bhaskar, stated, “After receiving information about the fire, emergency services arrived at the scene within five minutes. The fire was contained quickly, and fortunately, there were no fatalities.”
While no injuries were reported in the latest fire, the ashram suffered significant property damage, with seven tents completely gutted. Investigations are now underway to determine the exact cause of the fire.
In a related incident on February 9, a fire also broke out at a Kalpavasi tent in Sector 19, believed to be caused by a gas cylinder leak. Three fire tenders were dispatched to the location, and the blaze was extinguished within 10 minutes. Although the tent was destroyed, there were no reported injuries.
With thousands of devotees attending the Maha Kumbh Mela, fire safety remains a key concern, and authorities are working to ensure that such incidents do not cause harm to the people gathered for the religious gathering.
