A tragic incident has occurred in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where a Class 12 student allegedly took her own life after being distressed over scoring low marks in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2025. The 18-year-old student, who was enrolled at a private coaching institute in Gorakhpur, was found hanging from a noose made out of a white scarf in her hostel room on Wednesday afternoon.
According to reports, the student had been preparing for the JEE Mains, a competitive exam for engineering admissions, and was reportedly devastated by her low score. The results of the JEE Mains were announced on Tuesday, and the student had been struggling to come to terms with her performance.
The student’s family has revealed that she had left behind a note apologizing to her parents and expressing her regret over not being able to fulfill their dreams. The note read: “Sorry, mummy and papa. Please forgive me. I couldn’t make it. Our journey together ends here. Don’t cry. You both gave me immense love. I couldn’t fulfill your dreams.”
The student’s father has spoken to the media, recalling his last conversation with his daughter on Wednesday morning. He said that she had spoken to him and even got her mobile phone recharged, but had asked him not to inform anyone about her exam results. The father had reassured her and encouraged her to prepare for the next attempt, but never imagined that his daughter would take such a drastic step.
The student had returned to her hostel just two days ago, and her fellow students had noticed that she was locked in her room for a long time on Wednesday. When she did not open her door for a long time, her fellow students alerted the hostel warden, who eventually opened the door with the help of the police.
The police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death and have taken custody of the body. SP City Abhinav Tyagi confirmed that the authorities are proceeding with legal formalities and are trying to determine the exact cause of the student’s death.
This incident has highlighted the immense pressure and stress that students face during competitive exams, and the need for support and guidance to help them cope with disappointment and failure. The student’s death has sent shockwaves through the community, and her family and friends are struggling to come to terms with the loss.
The incident has also raised questions about the role of coaching institutes and the pressure they put on students to perform well. The student’s family has alleged that the coaching institute had put immense pressure on her to perform well, and that she was struggling to cope with the stress.
The government and educational authorities have been urged to take steps to prevent such incidents in the future and to provide support and guidance to students who are struggling with stress and pressure. The incident has also highlighted the need for greater awareness and discussion about mental health and the importance of seeking help when needed.
In the meantime, the student’s family and friends are mourning her loss and trying to come to terms with the tragedy. The student’s death is a reminder of the importance of supporting and guiding students during difficult times, and the need for a more compassionate and understanding approach to education.
