A stunning century from Shubman Gill and a dominant all-round performance helped India secure a comprehensive 142-run win over England in the third and final ODI, completing a 3-0 series sweep in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. The victory capped off India’s preparation for the Champions Trophy, with the hosts putting up a strong all-round display.

Shubman Gill’s 112 runs from 104 balls, which included 14 fours and 3 sixes, anchored India’s innings as they posted a formidable total of 356/5. This was Gill’s seventh ODI century and his third consecutive solid performance in the series, having scored two fifties earlier. Virat Kohli (52) and Shreyas Iyer (78) also contributed with steady half-centuries, helping India build a commanding total.

In response, England’s chase crumbled under pressure from India’s bowlers, with the visitors being bowled out for just 214 in 34.2 overs. Arshdeep Singh (2/33) and Harshit Rana (2/31) were instrumental in the win, while Axar Patel (2/22) also played a key role in dismantling the England batting line-up. England’s resistance faltered as they lost wickets at regular intervals, including that of opener Ben Duckett (34), who was dismissed after an aggressive start.

England’s middle order, led by Tom Banton (38), Joe Root (24), and Harry Brook (19), could not find their rhythm, with the Indian spinners exploiting the slow surface. The visitors’ downfall was further accelerated by Rashid’s dismissal of Kohli and Iyer, leaving the England team with little hope.

Earlier, Gill’s brilliant century, along with Kohli and Iyer’s contributions, helped India build a solid foundation. Kohli’s 52 came off 56 balls, showcasing his ability to adapt to different conditions, while Iyer’s 78 off 85 balls was a well-paced knock that kept India’s momentum going.

This comprehensive victory also saw Gill achieve the unique feat of scoring an international century in all three formats at the Narendra Modi Stadium. His knock was a display of technical proficiency and attacking intent, particularly against both pace and spin.

As for England, they struggled to maintain their early momentum after Duckett and Phil Salt (24) gave them a solid start. However, the Indian spinners tightened the screws as the game progressed, and England’s chase was effectively ended with regular wickets.

With this dominant performance, India completed a memorable 3-0 series sweep, providing a confidence boost ahead of the Champions Trophy.
