Ahead of the Delhi Assembly election results, Arvind Kejriwal, the former Chief Minister of Delhi and national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), has made serious allegations against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), accusing them of attempting to poach AAP candidates by offering ministerial positions and ₹15 crores each.
The accusations came after major pollsters released their predictions for the Delhi Assembly elections, with most forecasts indicating a clear majority for the BJP. Kejriwal took to social media platform X on Thursday, where he made the sensational claims, further challenging the integrity of the exit polls.
In his post, Kejriwal said, “In the last two hours, 16 of our candidates have received phone calls urging them to leave AAP and join their party. The BJP allegedly promised them ₹15 crores each and ministerial positions.” The AAP leader also pointed out a discrepancy in the BJP’s predicted win, asking, “If the BJP is truly winning more than 55 seats, why do they need to call our candidates?”
Kejriwal strongly rejected the exit polls, terming them as “fake surveys,” alleging that they were designed to create an atmosphere where AAP candidates could be lured away with monetary offers and promises of power. He also made it clear that AAP’s candidates would not be swayed by such tactics. “To those using abusive methods—none of our people will break away!” he declared emphatically.
The allegations come after the release of exit polls by several agencies. One of the major surveys, conducted by Axis My India, predicted that the BJP would win between 45 to 55 seats in the 70-member Delhi Assembly, with a vote share of 48%. The survey also suggested that AAP, which has won the last two elections in a landslide, would secure only 15 to 25 seats, with a vote share of 42%. Another reputable polling agency, Today’s Chanakya, released its own predictions, forecasting more than 51 seats for the BJP and 19 for AAP, with an error margin of 6 seats.
Kejriwal’s accusations add fuel to the growing debate about the validity of exit polls and the tactics used by political parties during the high-stakes elections. With the results set to be announced soon, the political temperature in Delhi is already rising, with the AAP leader accusing the BJP of using underhanded methods to influence the outcome.
As the city waits for the final result, Kejriwal’s statements have drawn attention to the role of exit polls and political maneuvering in the final days of the election season. The claims about BJP’s efforts to poach candidates, if proven, could have significant political ramifications as both parties brace for a fiercely contested outcome.
