A horrific incident has shaken the city of Ayodhya, where a 22-year-old Dalit woman was found dead in a desolate canal near her village. The woman’s body was discovered naked, with her eyes missing and multiple deep wounds and fractures. The police have launched an investigation and have taken a man into custody for questioning.
The woman had been missing since Thursday night, and her family had launched a search for her. Her brother-in-law found her body in a small canal, 500 meters away from the village, on Saturday morning. The family members claim that her limbs were tied with ropes, and her body had multiple deep cuts. The villagers who draped and transported the body noticed a fractured leg, and her elder sister and two women collapsed upon witnessing the horrific condition of the body.
The police have registered a missing report and have started an investigation. Circle Officer Ashutosh Tiwari said that once they receive the post-mortem findings, they will proceed accordingly. The woman’s family has accused the police of inaction, alleging that officers did not actively search for her despite the missing report. A large crowd gathered at the scene after the body was found, demanding swift justice.
The incident has sparked outrage, with many politicians and leaders condemning the crime. Samajwadi Party MP from Faizabad, Awadhesh Prasad, broke down during a press conference in Ayodhya, recalling his meeting with the victim’s family members. He assured them of justice and said that if the victim does not get justice, he would resign from the Lok Sabha. Former minister Tej Narayan Pandey Pawan and SP district president Parasnath Yadav consoled him and tried to calm him down.
However, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called Prasad’s emotional pledge a drama, saying that there must be a SP goon behind the heinous crime. “An incident happened with a daughter in Ayodhya. When the investigation will be done, the involvement of some cruel persons from SP will be definitely found,” he said.
The incident has also sparked a reaction from Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who strongly criticized the BJP and demanded strict action against the culprits and the police officers accused of negligence. They urged the Uttar Pradesh government to swiftly investigate the crime and ensure that the culprits face the strictest punishment.
