“We Recognise…”: US Extends Republic Day Greetings to India, Highlights Strong Bilateral Ties

The United States has extended its warm greetings to India on the occasion of its 76th Republic Day, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasizing the significance of India’s Constitution as the foundation of the world’s largest democracy.

In a statement, Rubio expressed that the relationship between India and the US continues to grow stronger, calling it “the defining relationship of the 21st century.” He noted that as India celebrates the adoption of its Constitution, the US stands with India in recognizing its enduring importance.”

The partnership between the United States and India continues to reach new heights, driven by a shared commitment to democracy and mutual respect. As we look to the future, we are excited to deepen our cooperation across various sectors, including space research and regional security,” Rubio said.

Rubio also highlighted the strategic importance of the Quad alliance—comprising the US, India, Japan, and Australia—in promoting a “free, open, and prosperous” Indo-Pacific region. He reaffirmed the US’s dedication to strengthening economic ties with India and fostering cooperation in regional and global affairs.

The celebrations of India’s Republic Day today will showcase the nation’s rich cultural diversity, unity, equality, and military strength, with President Droupadi Murmu presiding over the event. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto is attending as the Chief Guest.

Earlier this week, Secretary Rubio marked his first day in office by hosting the Foreign Ministers of Australia, India, and Japan for a key Quad meeting. The gathering underscored the alliance’s commitment to enhancing economic opportunities and ensuring peace and security in the Indo-Pacific.

Rubio also held bilateral talks with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Washington, DC, where both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the US-India partnership. They discussed a range of issues, including regional security and economic growth, and expressed mutual interest in addressing global challenges such as irregular migration.

This marks a continued strengthening of the US-India relationship, which both nations view as pivotal to shaping global dynamics in the 21st century.
