Explosion at Ordnance Factory in Bhandara, Maharashtra: 8 Dead, 7 Injured

An explosion occurred at an ordnance factory near Nagpur in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, causing a devastating incident in Bhandara district. The blast, which took place around 11 am, led to the collapse of a roof, trapping several workers beneath the rubble. According to initial reports, at least 12 individuals were caught under the debris, with two people successfully rescued so far. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to search for survivors and remove the wreckage with the help of an excavator.

Maharashtra authorities have confirmed the incident and are in the midst of coordinating a large-scale rescue operation. “There has been an accident involving a blast at the Ordnance Factory Bhandara this morning. Rescue and medical teams have been deployed to assist survivors, and the operation is currently underway,” officials said in a statement.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has expressed his concern over the incident. On social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he confirmed that both the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police were on-site, overseeing the ongoing rescue operations. “All necessary assistance is being provided, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) along with Nagpur Municipal Corporation teams have been called in for additional support,” Fadnavis wrote.

He further added, “According to preliminary reports, one worker has tragically lost their life in this explosion. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the family and share their sorrow. I pray for the speedy recovery of those injured in the blast.”

Emergency teams from the district administration are working in coordination with the defense forces to ensure a swift and organized rescue effort. Medical teams have also been kept on standby to provide immediate care to the injured once they are rescued.

At present, the exact cause of the explosion remains under investigation. However, authorities are focusing on the safety of workers and the ongoing recovery operation. The blast has sent shockwaves through the local community, as well as raised concerns about safety protocols at ordnance factories.

As rescue teams continue to comb through the debris, more casualties are feared, and the toll may rise. Efforts are being ramped up to reach those trapped under the rubble and provide them with timely medical care.The incident has shaken the region, and the authorities are ensuring that all resources are being mobilized to handle the aftermath effectively.
