Amit Shah Celebrates Makar Sankranti with Kite Flying in Ahmedabad

Union Home Minister Amit Shah continued his annual tradition by flying kites as part of Makar Sankranti celebrations in Ahmedabad on Tuesday. Accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, Shah enjoyed the festive activity from the rooftop of a building at the Shantiniketan Society in Memnagar, Ahmedabad.

Kite flying holds special significance during Makar Sankranti, a festival celebrated across India on January 14 every year. The day marks the sun’s transit into Capricorn, heralding the end of the winter solstice and the beginning of longer days.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel shared a post on X, showing a large crowd gathered on nearby rooftops to catch a glimpse of the Union Minister. “Amit Shah celebrated Makar Sankranti with the locals at Shantiniketan Society in Memnagar and extended his best wishes to everyone on this joyous occasion,” Patel wrote. He also praised the society for its vibrant decorations, including colorful kites and rangoli designs. “Thanks to the members of the society for the warm welcome,” Patel added.

Earlier in the day, Amit Shah extended his Makar Sankranti greetings, posting on X: “‘Makar Sankranti’ is a festival of unwavering faith in Indian culture and tradition. Heartiest greetings to the countrymen on this holy festival of energy, enthusiasm, and progress.”

On this auspicious occasion, devotees across India offer prayers to Lord Surya. The festival is known by different names in various regions, including Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Bihu in Assam, and Uttarayan in Gujarat, where it is celebrated with great enthusiasm.
