AIG Hospitals to Set Up ₹800 Crore Oncology Center in Hyderabad Featuring Proton Beam Therapy

AIG Hospitals, a leading healthcare provider, has announced a significant step in cancer care with the approval of an ₹800 crore investment for the installation of the Proteus ONE Proton Therapy System, set to be the cornerstone of its new dedicated oncology centre. The advanced system, acquired from IBA, a Belgium-based leader in proton therapy technology, will be housed at AIG’s Gachibowli campus. This makes AIG Hospitals the third institution in India to offer proton therapy, and the first in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

The Proteus ONE system, featuring DynamicARC, offers precise radiation delivery, significantly reducing damage to healthy surrounding tissues. This highly advanced treatment modality is particularly effective for cancers located near critical organs and is ideal for pediatric patients due to its precision. By minimizing collateral damage, Proton Beam Therapy promises to provide better outcomes for patients, ensuring safer and more effective treatment options.

Dr. D. Nageshwar Reddy, Chairman of AIG Hospitals, emphasized the transformative potential of this new initiative. “Our commitment is to place patients at the heart of everything we do. The acquisition of the Proton Beam Therapy System, alongside our partnership with IBA, is a significant leap forward in offering cutting-edge, compassionate cancer care. The Proteus ONE will be the cornerstone of our new 300-bedded oncology centre, delivering care on par with the best in the world,” he said.

P.V.S. Raju, Vice-Chairman of AIG Hospitals, expressed that the new technology is in line with the hospital’s vision to provide world-class cancer care within India. “This acquisition enhances our comprehensive cancer care services, which include medical oncology, radiation oncology, surgical oncology, supportive care, clinical research, and training,” he added.

The new centre will elevate AIG Hospitals’ oncology services and further solidify its position as a leader in the fight against cancer, making Proton Beam Therapy accessible to patients in the region and advancing cancer treatment in India.
