Deepak, a 24-year-old laborer who recently returned from Dubai, found himself in an unexpected nightmare when his long-distance wedding plans collapsed in Moga, Punjab. The groom, who hails from Mandiali village in Jalandhar district, had been eagerly awaiting his wedding to Manpreet Kaur, whom he met on Instagram three years ago. After months of online communication, the couple decided to marry, with their parents agreeing over the phone.
On December 6, Deepak arrived in Moga, adorned in a bright red turban and traveling in a flower-decorated car, accompanied by a baraat of over 150 guests. However, his dream day quickly turned into a distressing situation. Despite initial communications, when he reached Moga, he found the bride missing and the venue, ‘Rose Garden Palace,’ nonexistent.
Deepak, who had never met Manpreet in person but had exchanged photos over Instagram, attempted to contact her several times on the day of the wedding. Initially, she responded, stating that her relatives would guide the baraat to the venue. But by 5 pm, she stopped answering her phone, and Deepak was left stranded with his guests.
Frustrated after waiting for over five hours, Deepak and his family approached the local police to file a complaint. In his statement, he shared the details of his relationship with Manpreet, who had claimed to be a lawyer with a well-paying job in Ferozepur. Deepak also revealed that he had transferred ₹50,000 to Manpreet to assist with the wedding expenses.
Adding to the confusion, Deepak stated that Manpreet had provided false information about the wedding venue, as there was no ‘Rose Garden Palace’ in Moga, leading to further disappointment and distress.
The police are now investigating the matter, while Deepak and his family struggle to come to terms with the heartbreak and deception on what was meant to be the happiest day of his life.
