Vikrant Massey Announces Retirement from Acting at 37, Fans Stunned By Massey’s Decision

Published:

Vikrant Massey left his fans stunned early on Monday morning when he announced his decision to retire from acting at the age of 37. His sudden move has sparked conversations online, with some speculating that the underperformance of his latest film, The Sabarmati Report, might be linked to his choice to step back from his acting career.

The Sabarmati Report, a crime thriller based on the 2002 Godhra train burning incident in Gujarat, is still screening in theatres. According to Sacnilk, the film has earned ₹28.25 crore at the domestic box office during its 17-day run. Despite having the biggest opening of Vikrant’s solo lead career, the film’s performance didn’t match the consistent box office growth seen with his breakout film from last year, 12th Fail.

12th Fail, produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra Films, emerged as a sleeper hit, grossing ₹56.38 crore at the Indian box office. The film, based on the real-life struggles of a UPSC aspirant, continued to draw audiences even after its digital release on Disney+ Hotstar, running for 14 weeks in theatres. In between the releases of 12th Fail and The Sabarmati Report, Vikrant appeared in the Netflix crime thriller Section 36, but it did not have a theatrical release.

Vikrant’s Retirement Announcement

In a heartfelt note shared on Instagram, Vikrant Massey reflected on his career and expressed gratitude for his fans’ support. He wrote, “The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realise it’s time to recalibrate and go back home—as a Husband, Father, & a Son. And also as an Actor.”

Vikrant added, “So coming 2025, we will meet each other for one last time. Until time deems right. Last 2 movies and many years of memories. Thank you again. For everything and everything in between. Forever indebted.”

Vikrant will be seen next in two upcoming films, Yaar Jigri and Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, before he bids farewell to acting. Fans are now wondering if his retirement is a temporary break or a permanent shift away from the industry.
