In a dramatic turn of events straight out of an action movie, a groom in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut became an unexpected hero when he chased down a thief who snatched a currency note from his wedding garland. The incident took place after the groom, identified as Dev Kumar, had completed the traditional ghudchadhi ceremony and was riding his horse through the wedding procession.
The thief, who was reportedly driving a pickup truck, snatched a banknote from the groom’s garland as he passed by. Without hesitation, Dev Kumar jumped into action, abandoning his wedding festivities to chase down the thief.
A video of the thrilling pursuit, shared by journalist Piyush Rai on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), quickly went viral, capturing the attention of netizens across the country. In the footage, the groom is seen asking a passerby for a lift before chasing the thief’s truck down a busy road.
Despite the thief’s attempt to flee, Dev Kumar was determined not to let the theft go unchallenged. Clinging to the truck as it sped along, he showed impressive agility and determination. In a shocking move, the groom made his way to the passenger side of the truck, hauling himself through the window and forcing the driver to stop the vehicle.
Once the truck came to a halt, Dev Kumar, still dressed in his wedding attire, confronted the thief, who was a passenger in the pickup. The video shows the groom and his family members giving the thief a rough time, with slaps and punches being exchanged.
The pursuit unfolded in Dungarwali village in Meerut, where the video was captured by a passerby. It shows the groom, still adorned with his garland of banknotes, hanging precariously from the moving truck. A group of onlookers can be seen running alongside the vehicle, watching in disbelief as the groom manages to climb inside.
After the truck was stopped, Dev Kumar emerged from the vehicle, his wedding attire slightly disheveled, and began confronting the driver. His relatives quickly arrived at the scene, escalating the situation into a full-blown roadside altercation.
Fortunately, the situation de-escalated after the thief apologized. The groom and his family, seemingly satisfied with the apology, decided to let the matter go.
