In a public meeting on Tuesday in Chimur, Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the opposition’s Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which includes the Congress, NCP (SCP), and Shiv Sena (UBT). He accused the alliance of being the “biggest khiladi” (player) in corruption and hindering the state’s development.”
People in Maharashtra have long demanded rail connectivity, but the Congress and its allies never allowed it to happen. These parties specialize in blocking progress and are experts in misleading the people,” Modi said. He further alleged that the Aghadi alliance had consistently put brakes on Maharashtra’s development, accusing Congress of being adept at “stopping, hindering, and misleading.”
Modi also criticized Congress for its stance on the Tribal community, claiming that the party sought to divide the Adivasi population by categorizing them into various castes. “Congress wants to weaken the tribal community by dividing them. If the Adivasi community fractures into castes, it will lose its unity and strength,” the Prime Minister said. He pointed to a promise made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on caste-based census, claiming it was part of a divisive agenda.
The Prime Minister also referred to the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the role of Congress in the region’s historical issues. “Congress and its allies have benefited politically from violence and separatism. The unrest in Jammu and Kashmir was fueled by Article 370, a legacy of Congress. When we abolished it, we fully integrated Kashmir into India,” Modi stated.
He continued his attack on the Gandhi family, accusing them of believing they were “born to rule” the country, and claimed that Congress had obstructed the advancement of Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis in India. “In the 1980s, when Rajiv Gandhi led Congress, the party ran an advertisement questioning the special rights of Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis,” Modi said.
PM Modi concluded his speech by expressing confidence that the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance would secure a resounding victory in the upcoming Maharashtra elections, which are scheduled for November 20, with results expected to be announced on November 23.
